Stress Reduction
Training Program

It's time to do something about stress:

An 8 week intensive class that is designed to overhaul the way you relate to daily stress

Saturdays 2:00-4:30pm
1/17/09 thru 3/7/09

A New Year's resolution for 2009

Who should take this class?: Everyone is welcome.
Basically, if you have ever said to yourself, "I have to do something about my stress!" you should seriously consider taking this class.
People who simply need to improve how they deal with stress will benefit from the class. Also, there are also a number of positive medical studies on people with chronic pain (such as happens with fibromyalgia) who have participated in this format of class.

Requirements: You will need a deep commitment to your own well being. There are no other pre-requisites.
Your commitment will be to participate in class for eight Saturdays, plus there is one hour of "homework" every day during those eight weeks.

Location: Salem Street Studio,
235 Salem St. (Rte 60) Medford MA
The studio is about 2 blocks away from Route 93, exit 32 (the "big rotary"-on the Malden side)

• What should I expect to happen during the class?
During class, there will be lecture, discussion and meditation instruction. Some classes will include very gentle stretching exercises (yoga). There will be the option to do every class in a chair, or even lying down for those who have flexibility or illness issues.

• What is Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction?
Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is a stress reduction technique that uses the mind's ability to be aware. It is beneficial for anyone who wants to cope with stress in a healthy manner.
This technique is used at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center's Center for Mindfulness. Over ten years of medical research is proving that this format of regular meditation practice can also be a powerful form of complimentary medicine. It helps people without illness to cope with daily stress, and also it helps medical patients cope with the stress that comes from physical symptoms and illnesses. Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn introduced the format for this 8 week intensive in his book "Full Catastrophe Living."

• The instructor for this class in Medford is Gena Bean.
Gena Bean is a meditation instructor and certified Yoga Teacher. Her instruction style is very clear and accessible to beginners. She completed the practicum in MBSR at the Center for Mindfulness at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in 2007.

For more info or to register for this class call Gena Bean at 617-388-2036 or send email.
